Fri.08.Feb.08:
Eoghan Colgan Single Launch

Dicelines are proud to work once again with Eoghan Colgan, (winner of 2007’s ‘O2 Undiscovered’ competition) as he celebrates his next single with a performance at The Classic Grand in Glasgow on Friday the 8th of February.

Eoghan will release his first single of 2008 on February 11th. ‘That First Time’, recorded in Glasgow’s Gloworm Studios by Ian Hutchison, is Colgan’s first musical foray since his spectacular O2 victory in April 2007, one which saw industry luminaries hail him as a talent on the rise.

Since then, Colgan (first name pronounced ‘Owen’) and his four-piece band have played the O2 Wireless Festival, The Grazia and the Scottish Fashion Awards, as well as opening the Q Awards Launch Party. The Millenium Dome performance, alongside the likes of Hard-Fi, Athlete and The Manic Street Preachers, was hailed by Q as an “enthralling curtain-raiser”, with Colgan’s vocals compared to Jeff Buckley’s.

Most recently, Colgan played a London showcase for EMI, Warner and Island Records. It’s safe to say that his reputation – not to mention his life – have undergone some rapid changes in the last year. In the wake of 2007’s successes, Colgan quit his job as a doctor at Stirling Royal Infirmary to focus on his music full-time, and meet the new demands that a fairly constant presence in London, and on stage, places on him.

“This year and next are all about thinking bigger,” he says. “I’ve always been passionate about my music and it wasn’t a difficult choice to pursue it full-time.

“Both the new recordings and the launch show include new arrangements, with piano, strings and woodwind. Rock and pop are still my main influences but this has transformed the band’s sound”.

Indeed, February’s launch show will involve an eleven-strong band and Colgan’s looking forward to taking this full complement on the road in 2008. Festival appearances back home in Ireland and Scotland, as well as a UK tour, are planned. January 2008 will see Colgan take part in a documentary about emerging Irish musicians, to be aired in Summer 2008.

‘That First Time’, the follow-up to May 2007’s self-titled EP – which though somewhat eclipsed by his O2 coup still received strong support from Scottish press and radio – will no doubt keep audiences, critics and industry enthused.

Colgan is well-used to selling-out venues and impressing new ears (the latest being GMTV’s Jenni Falconer, who told NOW magazine “I can’t stop listening to Eoghan…he’s fantastic and he’s going to be massive!”) and this is reason enough to keep medicine on the sideline and propel him onwards in 2008.

Catch him at The Classic Grand on February 8th - you’ll soon see what all the fuss is about.

“The Jeff Buckley-esque agility of his voice made for a quietly entertaining curtain-raiser.” (Q Magazine)

“An incredible voice…he could go on to sell millions of records”
(Amanda Ghost, Grammy-nominated songwriter)

“One heck of a voice”
(Jim Gellatly, XFM)

"…talent in abundance. A haunting voice with impressive songwriting skill, his acoustic melodies…send a shiver up your spine"
(Evening Times)

"It worked for Snow Patrol, emotional tunes about love, loss and break-ups. If you like Travis, James Blunt or David Ford you will definitely like this band….it has at its heart Eoghan's pleasant voice and acoustic guitar…They have the tunes and now all they need is a big break."
